The Baseline Schedule
For a typical daily driver in Orange County's mild climate, we recommend a maintenance wash every 2 weeks, an interior wipe-down monthly, and a full detail every 4–6 months. That cadence keeps contaminants from bonding to the paint and prevents the interior from reaching a point where deep extraction is needed.
Adjusting for Coastal Living
If you're near the coast in Huntington Beach, Newport, or Dana Point, salt air accelerates oxidation. Bump wash frequency to weekly during summer months. Contaminants that sit on paint become harder to remove and can etch through clear coat. A quick rinseless wash is usually enough between full washes.
Kids, Pets, and Commutes
If you haul kids, pets, or eat in your car, plan on interior detailing every 2–3 months instead of quarterly. Car seats trap crumbs and liquid, pet hair embeds in upholstery, and coffee spills sink in faster than people think. A monthly vacuum and wipe-down between pro details goes a long way.
Signs You're Overdue
Water no longer beads on the paint. Interior plastics look dull or feel sticky. There's a faint odor you can't pinpoint. Dirt shows up an hour after washing. Any of these means it's time to stop stretching the schedule.
The Minimum Viable Plan
If you only do three things a year: one full exterior detail with paint decontamination in spring, one interior deep clean in fall, and consistent two-week maintenance washes in between. That plan alone will keep 90% of cars in great shape and protect resale value.
